Becoming A Self Confident Teenager

As simple as these two words may seem, many young people have not been able to achieve it or have a grasp of it.

Self confidence can also interchangeably mean being confident about one’s self. It is also a positive belief that in the future, one can generally accomplish what one wishes to do. Self-confidence is not the same as self-esteem. Self-confidence is more specifically trust in one’s ability to achieve some goals while self esteem  is an evaluation of personal worth.

Many  teenagers/youngsters have  very little or no form of self confidence and this has drastically affected  their  lives in different measures. A person with no self confidence cannot make huge impact and progress in life  because we are what we attract, even if people have confidence in us that we can attain a particular height we would not be able to reach that level until we ‘MAN UP’ i.e have absolute trust in ourselves.

This can only be accomplished through the help of God. Until we come to the understanding of who we are in Christ,we will only be chasing shadows. A life with no self confidence bears the risk of being a mediocre .

Self Esteem which goes hand in hand with self confidence, in the words of Late Dr.Myles Munroe means “the estimation of one’s value to the world.” Until we come to the understanding that we were made by God for his purpose ,being fully aware that potentials and values are inherent in us which upon discovery will affect our world greatly, we will not have full confidence in ourselves.

Our Self confidence do not come from the external sources around us but from ‘within’ and what is in us as believers is God’s Spirit, the holy Spirit himself. The Bible says:

“‘He that is in me is greater than he that is in the world”

One  of the vital ways we  can build our self confidence is dwelling on God’s word because it is from the word that we discover our identity and whose we are. These cannot be discovered through  our society. Before you beat yourself up about what a particular teacher, friend, that aunty in your street said about you load yourself up with God’s word because that speaks the’ truth’ about you. Make God the source of your life. What you feed on makes you because you are what you think.

The word of God boosts our level of confidence, the Bible in the book of Philippians 4:13 says

”I can do all things through Christ which  strengthens me”.This is not a mere statement, this verse breeds confidence.

Also, surround yourself with fellow believers, those you share the same heritage with in Christ. People who see you from God’s own perspective. Be mindful of ” so called friends” who never see  the good in you.The Bible says “iron sharpens iron.”

Conclusively, one of God’s attributes  is that He is the KING of Kings not of mediocres because we are Kings. As Kings therefore, we should think in like manner. A King never lacks confidence in himself. I therefore charge us to MANUP(Be confident in who God has created you to be).
